Windows – a Clean Home’s Nightmare
Cleaning is not an easy job. Especially when you have to clean the whole house. Dust needs to be eliminated, pillows and pillowcases need to be washed, and don’t forget about vacuuming. Everything can be done in a fast way, except for one thing – windows.
Cleaning them is a painful process. If you’ve ever tried it, you know it. Most people don’t even know how to clean them properly. The chemical cleaners leave a lot of traces behind besides being unhealthy. And, the whole newspaper thing just doesn’t work. Every time we clean our windows, there’s just no way to make them spotless.
But, thanks to this guide, you’ll have no problems cleaning your windows anymore. The tips you can see below will help you keep them shiny and clean forever. Finally, you’ll clean that glass like a pro.
Window Cleaning Tips
Dust Goes First
The key to making your windows as spotless as humanly possible is to remove the dust first. In this way, you’ll prevent it from turning into a muddy mess. Just get your vacuum cleaner and vacuum all the dust up. You can use a brush if you don’t have one of those fancy attachments.
As soon as the dust is removed, you’ll be able to clean your windows properly and prevent those dreaded streaks.
Choose a Dry Day
Is there any point in cleaning your windows on a rainy day? No, there isn’t. A hot, sunny day doesn’t work as well. Why? Well, the heat from the sun will make the cleaner dry onto the windows immediately, leaving hard streaks. So, choose a dry, even cloudy day to clean your windows – it will be worth it.
We’re serious – a squeegee makes things worse. Although you might see pros use them, they make a hell of a mess and they’re ineffective.
If you were wondering what to use instead of squeegees, the answer is simple – a microfiber cloth. Get one in your store or get a few if there’s a generous discount. Microfiber cloths are absorbent and can eliminate streaks on glass, so they are our top pick for cleaning windows.
Get a Quality Cleaner
Picking the right cleaner is probably the most important thing when cleaning your windows. Don’t go for those cheap ones, unless you want your windows dirty and smudgy. Pick a quality glass cleaner. If you don’t know what to get, just ask the staff at the store. They should be able to recommend a good cleaner.
If you’d like to go the DIY way, a mix of 2 cups of water, ¼ cup rubbing alcohol, and ½ a cup of white vinegar will do the job nicely.
Break it Down
To make things easier for you, break down the cleaning process by room. Better yet, clean one side of the window horizontally and the other vertically. In this way, you’ll easily know where the streaks form.
All that’s left is to use that microfiber cloth to wipe them all down. The result? Perfectly clean glass and streak and smudge-free windows. Do this 2-3 times per year and they’ll look better than ever.
